5.11 Tactical has answered the needs of the patrol officers when it comes to breaching doors, windows or whatever you need opened to solve the incident. The 5.11 Breaching System includes their new line of breaching tools. This Breaching System was jointly developed by Adam Lazar, the 5.11 Tactical product development manager, Tim Terry, 5.11 Tactical US lead breacher, and two team members from a Swedish Hostage Rescue Team (HRT).

Lars Ingesson has been the lead Breacher and Instructor on the full-time Swedish HRT team since 1998. A respected trainer in all forms of breaching; from mechanical, hydraulic to explosive, Lars has trained many of the best known tactical teams in Europe. Patrik Gustavsson is a former HRT team leader with a background as an engineer.

The two developed Sweden Entry Tools (SET) after finding their current tools weren’t up to the task of breaching high-level security doors. By combining Patrik’s knowledge as an engineer with Lars’ experience in breaching techniques, S.E.T. has perfected a faster, safer and more effective mechanical breaching system, available through 5.11 Tactical.

Active Patrol Breaching Kit

At the top of the list is the Active Patrol Breaching Kit. This comes with two tools: the MultiSledge and the MultiPry. This kit is one of the lightest mechanical breaching kits available. It is ideal for deployment in patrol cars, emergency services, warrant teams or wherever immediate access is required. In just a short training period, an operator will be able to open outward- and inward-opening wooden doors, steel doors, security doors and windows.

The MultiSledge is four entry tools in one: a multi-directional hammer, a break ‘n rake tool, a claw pry bar, and a ram. The “break ‘n rake” feature allows the operator to shatter all types of windows. The rake tool pulls glass shards out of the window frame. The claw pry end is used in conjunction with the MultiPry Tool to assist opening of reinforced, inward opening doors.

The MultiSledge brings with it weight which is not common in traditional break ‘n rake breaching tools. That said, I would have liked to see the MultiSledge made a little heavier and longer for the SWAT side of breaching. The MultiSledge steel shaft provides the strength to open doors without any of the spring tension into the tool.

The MultiPry is a small and lightweight tool with a special head designed to be used with the MultiSledge to open all types of inward and outward swinging doors. The TacForged™ steel, serrated duckbill head and pry claw design of the head gives good bite, good case displacement, and little slippage for maximum mechanical advantage. The hydraulic pipe steel handle makes the tool both strong.

The MultiPry is a pry, not a hooligan tool with the point off to the side, which has stabbed me in the back when trying to sling it. One downside: the MultiPry tool has very weight on the top, forcing you to use more effort to break the middle support on windows. Again, a little more weight would make a better tool.

The tools are very lightweight and designed with all sizes of officers in mind. One really nice aspect: These are not a standard or modified fireman’s tools. They are truly police tools made for police work. Both tools come with sling attachment points that provide officers the ability to carry the tools individually.

The Active Patrol Breaching Kit comes with a 1050D nylon case called the Lite Kit Bag. This is a secure, simple stowage bag that has vehicle trunk lash(?) down options and a sling. This allows patrol and emergency response teams to standardize the way active threat response tools are deployed and stowed.

Heavy Breaching Kit

The Heavy Breaching Kit is one of the most complete kits on the market for entry teams. Different from the Active Patrol Breacher Kit, the Heavy Breaching Kit contains MultiBreacher, MiniRam, MultiPry and EdgeBender tools. This is everything a tactical response team needs to quickly and safely enter buildings—regardless of door types.

The MultiBreacher is the only breaching tool on the market that allows the opening of both outward- and inward-swinging security doors, fire doors and wooden doors. The unique design of the tool head ensures maximum mechanical advantage to open both upward- and inward-opening security doors in seconds.

The MiniRam is a weight-optimized and balanced striking tool. The MiniRam provides the maximum striking force while retaining its flexibility of use. The convex-shaped striking head is constructed of TacForged™ Steel with a reinforced, weight-balanced steel body. The MiniRam works as both a traditional ram for knocking in doors and as a striking tool for use in conjunction with the MultiBreacher. The MiniRam is designed for use at shoulder height to provide the maximum impact, without the weight of traditional rams.

The EdgeBender Tool is a security plate bypass tool. It has revolutionized the ability to open outward swinging metal/security doors in a reliable way. Uniquely shaped vise jaws discretely slip behind niche-mounted security plates on plate mounted locks. With one simple motion, the security plate edge is pinched and folded out of the way to reveal the gap between the door and the frame, allowing for an effective breach, thus reducing time on the breaching site.

The Heavy Kit Bag is designed to carry the Heavy Breaching Kit. This unique backpack allows for standardized operating procedure to be developed around the deployment and stowage of the 5.11 Heavy Breaching Kit System. Constructed of durable 1050D nylon with quick release lash downs, 400-pound-load-rated quick release buckles, comfort yoke strap, reinforced internal steel frame, and padded waist support.

Breach Training Door

The MultiPurpose Training Door is designed for mechanical and hydraulic door breaching training. Successful door entry requires that you know exactly how and where to place the tools. The MultiPurpose Training Door with 5/32-inch sidewall hollow-steel tube construction for durability and repeatable training.

It is the only training door on the market that meets the requirements for 100-percent realistic training on outward and inward doors; wooden, security and fire doors; and a wide variation of locking points, steel-bolt locking mechanisms and ram striking surfaces. With readily available, cost-effective replacement door jambs, steel door bolts, and door cases, the MultiPurpose Training Door provides a long-term, maintainable training solution without the expense of replacing worn-out or damaged training doors.

The BEAST is 5.11 Tactical’s proprietary breaching training vehicle. This vehicle will be used to train SWAT, law enforcement, military, fire and first responder teams across the country on effective breaching techniques utilizing 5.11 Tactical’s Expert Entry Tools with the new 5.11 MultiPurpose Training Door.
