Town of Marshfield, Mass. balances safety and privacy in public buildings

 

When police unraveled a Columbine-like plot that included a planned assault on emergency first responders, it forever altered the psyche of the quaint seaside town of Marshfield, Mass. The town’s police department and emergency management agency recognized that they could improve public safety by installing video cameras in several high-risk public buildings.

Emergency Response and the Mentaly Ill

Knowing how to deal with and care for individuals affected by mental illness has always been a challenge in the U.S., and the mentally afflicted and their families may often turn to law enforcement for help. As officers will inevitably come in contact with the mentally ill, it is important that they eradicate the mindset that mentally ill people are necessarily more violent than others.
