Mexican federal, state and municipal are rapidly expanding their deployments of security cameras throughout the nation and they have overwhelmingly chosen the broadband wireless solutions of Redline Communications to provide the critical high-speed, low-latency data connection necessary for recording and linking the cameras to operators.

Mexico’s law enforcement authorities had long recognized the value of using cameras to constantly monitor key commercial, residential, public and high-crime areas, but large-scale deployments only began in 2008 when Redline’s broadband wireless solutions were selected to provide the necessary high-speed connectivity. While the high-resolution cameras can capture faces, automobile license plates, and other key details with the clarity and detail needed by the authorities, the locations of the cameras could not be cost effectively served with fiber optic cable.
The high bandwidth, low latency and proven reliability of Redline’s wireless solutions were the ideal solution, enabling Mexican authorities to quickly and cost effectively deploy their cameras virtually anywhere in the country, from crowded city squares to industrial parks and even remote tourist beaches.
Redline-enabled cameras have so far been deployed in 40 locations throughout Mexico, with the majority in the states of Chiapas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima, Guanajuato and Michoacán. Additionally, cameras are being deployed in such major municipalities as San Pedro, tourist favorite Cancun, and Querétaro, Mexico’s fastest-growing industrial center, which currently operates more than 330 cameras on wireless links.
Mexican authorities recently took full advantage of the advanced capabilities of the Redline solution during the Pope’s visit last month. In less than two days, they deployed and connected a series of cameras to comprehensively monitor Pope Benedict XVI’s safety as he gave an open-air Mass to hundreds of thousands of followers at Bicentennial Park in the state of Guanajuato.
This application highlights the unique ability of Redline’s broadband wireless solutions to quickly and easily provide the reliable bandwidth necessary for machine-to-machine communications where there is no telecommunications infrastructure or the existing infrastructure is not up to the task.

One of the key reasons for Redline dominating the Mexican security camera market is the outstanding bandwidth capacity of its solution, which is key for ensuring superb image quality in all conditions, an important requirement for the authorities. This bandwidth – consistently maintained by Redline’s advanced quality of service (QoS) features – ensures that video is free from pixilation, tiling and other image quality issues, common problems with lower bandwidth wireless systems.
Extremely low latency is another critical requirement as camera operators must be able to tilt, pan and zoom their cameras without delay to capture fast-moving action, such as cars speeding through an intersection. Redline’s solution supports latency as short as one millisecond ensuring no noticeable lag between operators’ commands and reactions from the cameras.
Mexican authorities are currently using either Redline’s rugged RDL-3000 or AN-80i broadband radios powered by VideoLINK software. They operate in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configurations depending on deployment requirements, allowing many units in the field to communicate over long distances to a smaller number of base stations, which improves the cost effectiveness of the system.
