The Michigan State Police announced their plans to test the Ford F-150 2WD 5.4L pickup during their annual patrol vehicle evaluation. This Special Service Vehicle test will take place Saturday, Sept. 16 at DaimlerChrysler’s Chelsea Proving Grounds.
This testing will also include the Ford Escape Hybrid.
The testing is open to all law enforcement and civilian fleet managers. However, to attend the testing, application must be made to the MSP Precision Driving Unit before Aug. 4. Contact them for more information at (517) 322-1789.
Other vehicles to be tested at Chelsea on Sept. 16th and at Grattan Raceway on Sept. 18 will include two versions of the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, the Chevy Impala, two versions of the Chevy Tahoe (including E85), both V-6 and V-8 versions of both the Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum, the Ford Explorer and the Ford Expedition.
The Chelsea testing includes acceleration, braking and top speed. The Grattan testing, conducted only on pursuit-capable vehicles, involves high-speed handling around the road racing course.
The MSP also announced plans to test a variety of motorcycles. Five different makes have been invited to participate. This testing will take place at Chelsea and at the MSP Precision Driving Unit driving course. The exact testing protocol for the motors is still under development.
