2008 IACP New Product Round-up 4 (cont'd)
Peerless® Handcuff Co.
Peerless Handcuff announced the Model 750 Chain Link Handcuff and Model 850 Hinged Handcuff Color Plated Restraints. They are available in five colors: red, blue, yellow, orange and pink.
Electrolytic Polyurethane Plating (EPP) is used to fully color coat restraints inside and out without interfering with the lock mechanism or jaw swing-through. The durable EPP finish is resistant to chipping and scratching and exceeds the NIJ’s 12-hour salt spray tests. All color-plated restraints come with a lifetime warranty for manufacture defects.
Color-plated restraints can prevent equipment loss by allowing individuals, agencies or departments to more easily identify and track property. Color plating enables or reinforces subject classification by identifying differentiate threat levels, medical conditions, jurisdiction and more.
The SA-4 PepperBall® system from PepperBall launches ImpactPlus™ projectiles that strike with about 20 feet/pounds of force and release three grams of hot pepper. The combination of psychological shock from being laser sited and then launched upon, painful kinetic impact, and potent hot pepper powder combine to subdue suspects.
This system is a less-lethal option in many scenarios, including domestic disputes, inmate management, non-combatant scenarios, security response, suspect compliance and defensive tactics. The SA-4 is a self-contained and integrated solution that does not require staging. Easy reload magazines are available for live pepper or inert training rounds.
The SA-4 launcher’s compact size uses minimal space on officer duty belts. It features four projectiles per magazine with semi-automatic, rapid-fire capability for measured use of force or multiple suspect scenarios. Its target is accurate at ranges up to 30 feet. Hi-viz and laser sights, plus multi-position safety and laser settings improve accuracy.
PIPS Technology, a Federal Signal company, has a new mobile automated license plate recognition (ALPR) camera called “The Edge™.” Just over 1.5 inches tall, The Edge is designed for today’s low-profile lightbars and does not hinder lightbar performance. The Edge reduces the processing burden on the ALPR processor by providing initial Platefinder technology onboard the camera.
PIPS also released a smaller, more powerful processor for a turnkey mobile ALPR system. The SupeRex™ III features increased processing power to handle up to four of The Edge cameras, while performing optical character recognition, hot list matching and alert notifications to the patrol car’s existing mobile data terminal (MDT).
RAM Mounts released a modular-molded equipment console system. It combines rugged materials with a final product about 30% lighter than other manufacturer’s consoles. No sharp edges or corners ensure occupant safety and provide a state-of-the-art appearance.
RAM Mounts’ unique molded faceplates incorporate a tongue-and-groove feature to prevent contamination of electronics and prevent the loss of important documents, licenses and paperwork. High-quality materials, finish and corrosion resistance ensure a long product life. In addition, the product is backed by the NPI Lifetime Warranty.
Modular design allows for multiple configurations for the installer.
With a variety of hole patterns and attachments integrated into the console’s design, the Toughbox consoles are compatible with a variety of pre-existing RAM mounting solutions. Molded interlocking faceplates are rigid and tough and have no welds that could potentially break. The new RAM Twist-Lock™ feature allows for quick and easy access to radios or switches.
RedMan Training Gear
RedMan’s Striking Shield is perfect for training and tough enough for duty. It is made of durable cover material that won’t split or crack, with a redesigned body-forming curved shape. In addition, it features a new color and style, and it is newly designed for DT use.
The Striking Shield’s dimensions are: 30 inches H x 19 inches W x 5 inches D. The Striking Shield comes with a universal handle or secure strapping system. Left or right hand holds come in five different configurations. The RedMan Striking Shield has been redesigned to meet both training and duty needs. It is ideal for defensive tactics, weapons defense or corrections training.
Setcom significantly upgraded its Waterproof Liberator Wireless Transmitter. The Liberator can now perform in even wetter conditions and allows over 1,000 separate wireless connections. The handlebar transmitter enclosure and switch boot conform to the IP-X8 standard, which exceeds the previous rating of IP-X7. IP-X8 for the Setcom system means that it can be held at a depth of 1 meter under water for one hour without significant water incursion.
Setcom also increased the number of motor officers who can ride in close proximity without interference. The Setcom system now allows 1,024 simultaneous riders. The Liberator offers increased freedom and ease of movement. In addition, by operating in the 900 MHz ISM frequency range, the system avoids the interference associated with higher frequencies.
The Liberator is backward compatible with Setcom’s existing helmet kits. In addition, the system draws the minimal power it requires from the portable radio battery, removing the need to recharge a secondary battery and eliminating a failure point. Setcom’s Liberator is currently available in “Portable Radio Only” configurations for most popular Motorola and M/A-COM portable radios.
Setina Manufacturing Co. Inc.
Setina Manufacturing’s new Gun Guardian allows quick, easy access to weapons in a patrol vehicle, while providing added protection to the officer from the gun’s sharp edges in the event of an accident. The Gun Guardian is available in two sizes, one for shotguns and one for tactical rifles.
It helps to protect weapons from nicks and scratches, as well as dust and debris. The Gun Guardian also conceals weapons to guard against thieves and gives firearms a less aggressive look.

SIG SAUER offers a concealment holster for the P250 (polymer, with trigger guard locking latch).

Springfield Armory USA®
The XD(M)™ from Springfield Armory is a 19+1 round 9mm. Its caliber is 9x19mm. It weighs 32 ounces and is 8 inches long. The XD(M) has Dovetail front and rear (steel) three-dot sights and a trigger pull of 5.5 to 7.7 pounds. XD(M) Gear™ includes a multi-use carrying case with two magazines, a belt holster, a mag loader, a double mag pouch and all three backstraps. The magazines are made of stainless steel.
The Ultra Safety Assurance (USA) Trigger System™ guards against accidental discharge from dropping or bumping by locking the trigger in place until direct, rearward pressure is applied. Deeper, longer, and more slide serrations allow for a more penetrating grasp. The modified contour of the new XD(M) grip near the magazine release is ideal for any size hand without twisting or adjusting from the shooting grip.
The new XD(M) trigger has a shorter travel than any currently available polymer pistol along with a shorter reset, which keeps users on target for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. A triple-position Picatinny rail readily accepts lights, lasers or other accessories. It allows them to be adjusted to the shooter’s hand position.
