Sandy Springs Police
Chief Ken DeSimone
Sandy Springs, GA
We began this police department in 2006. We chose this design to give a new look and higher visibility from that of the older county police cars.
The colors were selected to make the car stand out, particularly the blue with white bordered stripe.
Originally, reflective material was not used b/c we were putting together a new PD with a limited budget meaning we had to outfit 86 new cars to meet a July 1 deadline. Subsequently, we transitioned to reflective material.
The original design was that of our first chief, Chief Gene Wilson. The original start up group of SSPD officers, (12) including myself, voted on the design. The original city manager and city council approved the desgin. It was done very quickly as we were a start up but the design became very popular.
The graphics are unique because no other metro Atlanta police department had that particular design. Functional because that design was easily identifiable to the public. It is considered professional because of it's simplicity. The blue / white bordered strip represents the "blue line" of law enforcement. The lettering and fonts are easily readable and no unnecessary information is displayed on the vehicle.
The design is uniquie and of its own. Because Sandy Springs voted to incorporate, after a 30-year effort, we were able to capture the "newness" of the city with the design.
The importance of the design is the blue "line" that makes the vehicles stand out.
