Centralia Police Department
Chief Robert Berg
Centralia , WA
This 2005 MRAP was acquired as a replacement to our current aging Peacekeeper armored vehicle. We were lucky enough to be chosen as one of the first five agencies in the State of Washington to receive one of these vehicles from the federal government. Without government assistance we would never be able to afford to acquire such a vehicle.
The chief decided to have the vehicle painted to match a lighting and graphics scheme that is similar to our other specialty vehicles. We chose not to use reflective materials in an effort to blend in better with it's surroundings. The vehicle was painted by a local paint shop in accordance with the department philosophy and emphasis in community policing. We wanted to involve community members and businesses within our jurisdiction in this effort to give them a sense of having some ownership in the department and it equipment.
There are no other vehicles like this within a 70 mile radius so we will make it available to all surrounding agencies that ask for it. We kept a little tradition of displaying our shoulder patch on our vehicles and kept the block letters more retro-style to match to match the feel within our rural community. These types of vehicles are critical to officer safety and are routinely used whenever we becoming involved in a critical incident.
