Department Name:

Orleans Police Department

Department Head:
Chief Scott W. MacDonald
Orleans, MA
In 1987, Lt. John Fitzpatrick and the Orleans Police Relief Association was able to locate and restore a 1946 Chevrolet Fleetmaster police cruiser, which is reminiscent to the departments first cruiser. . This car was refurbished with several of the original equipment that was on the departments first cruiser. in 1946 the town's first full time patrolman, Joseph "Jack" Higgins was appointed police chief, and he, along with full time officers used this cruiser until 1955 when the department took ownership of a new Belair 4 door. This car has lead every parade since 1988, and is commonly parked in front of the police station (not on inclement days!). For every function of the department, the '46 can be seen leading the way. We are very proud of this car and it's history.
