This design was chosen to present a dramatic image and be immediately identifiable as belonging to the Police of the Smithsonian Institution's National Zoological Park. In an area with numerous police and investigative agencies, often with overlapping jurisdictions, we thought that it was important to clearly have a distinctive and readily recognizable color scheme. Within the park there are numerous emergency vehicles with emergency lighting of the same type of vehicle as ours and we wanted to distinguish and identify ours as clearly a police vehicle. NZPP (National Zoological Park Police) maintain a professional appearance and conduct in all matters, including how we conduct our duties. The appearance of our equipment is of significance to a professional image, we feel that this vehicle presents that image and is keeping with the highest traditions of the world’s premier museum system.
