Description:
Buffalo Grove Police Department had plain white Harley-Davidson Road King police motorcycles with simple blue decals since the inception of our motor program in 1998. The original design matched our squad cars of that era.
Since then, the decal design of our squad cars has been updated with more modern graphics on the venerable white cars.
In 2012 our Traffic Unit -- whose members exclusively utilize the motorcycle -- decided to move away from the plain white Road King. The motor officers decided to obtain an Electra Glide model due to the advantages the fairing offers.
The different design of the vehicle required a change in the graphics package. This clean slate situation led the officers to request the two tone Blue / Silver color combination offered by the manufacturer.
The graphics were subsequently redesigned to fit properly and to better compliment the paint scheme.
To address safety of the motor officers, the graphics were created using reflective film and additional LED lighting was installed on the motorcycle.
The new design has been quite successful. This vehicle continues to receive constant praise for its unique appearance and beauty. Many officers from other jurisdictions and the general public have commented this is the best looking police motorcycle they have seen.
This successful design change has led our department to re-imagine the color and design of our squad cars, which may follow a similar design theme in the future.
