Department Name:

CANTON OHIO POLICE DEPARTMENT

Department Head:
CHIEF BRUCE LAWVER

Location:
CANTON, OH

Description:
This is the Canton Police dept. 1937 Studebacker President armored vehicle. It was purchased by the city for use during steel mill strikes in the 1940's. It has remained a part of the departments fleet til this day. It is currently housed at the Canton Classic car Museum, but if it were needed could be put into service. Surprisingly it has turrets in the widows that are nearly identical to those in our new BEAR armored vehicle which was produced some 50 years later. This vehicle was used in the 1950's to free several family members from armed gunmen who had taken them hostage following an armed robbery. The vehicle previously was equipped with two Thompson .45 caliber sub machine guns. The car had a full restoration in 2004. Additional photos are available.
