We are starting to experience fuel pump failures. 2009 series around 27,000 miles, had three in a row.

Seems like the filter sock plugs up and causes the lack of power or check engine light. I replace the filter sock on the bottom of the pump #XW1Z-9A011-AA as preventive maintenance at 25,000 miles when the fuel is below a 1/4 tank makes it an easy change.

Fuel transfer pumps are the most effective method of transporting fuel from one container to a different container.

I am using Holley 12-802-1 - Holley Blue Electric Fuel Pumps from last 2 years.I hadn't faced any problems till yet.It is working effectively.The biggest advantage of it them is that they can't leak gas into your engine.They are less likely to develop external leaks.The electric pumps are capable of developing the high pressures needed for fuel injection at all engine speeds and conditions.

We have had a few pumps go bad - no real trend though.  I have heard that letting the fuel level go below 1/4 tank can be detrimental since the fuel is used as a cooling/lubricating medium for the pump.  Considering the number of steep hills in The City, maybe keeping the fuel level above 1/3 tank to avoid intermittent pump starvation would be a good idea.  Sometimes new vehicles will have fuel pump and fuel gauge problems due to contamination/reaction between new part assembly coatings and certain brands of fuel.  I usually put a bottle of "Techron Plus Fuel System Cleaner" (the expensive stuff) in the tank at the first fill-up - no further problems.

There may be some truth to the fuel level issue.  I have had no issues with fuel pumps but on the other hand, our fuel levels rarely go below 1/2 tank.  My patrol fleet is a pool fleet and officers are required to fill at the end of each shift.
