The law suit has returned in Missouri. From what I read the widow of the trooper got a portion of 8.5 million and has decided to start the law suit up against Ford Motor Company.

I kind of feel bad....I know this is a hot topic, but what car out there is safe at 70+MPH rear impact?

I think this can be debated for ever. What do you think? Is it Fords design flaw?

MAYBE NOT A FLAW WHEN WE PUT STROBE LIGHTS IN REAR DECKS  THAT GET REAL HOT PLUS A LOT OF VOLTAGE    A NICE SPARK FOR A FIRE  WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE  WE HAVE SWITCH TO ALL LED IN REAR DECK

They can blame everything from carrying road flares in the trunk to why was the trooper sitting in the car at time of accident... there are no winners...R.I.P.

I've always wondered if statistics were kept on white car vs dark car rear end collisions? White cars seem much more visable at night. Just curious since I noticed the NYSP added reflective gold tape to the trunk and rear bumpers of their dark blue cars.

Ohio runs white cars.

I do not think you can blame any manufacturer for a 70 mph rear end collision and possible fire. It's unfortunately just the laws of physics at work. It's a dangerous situation in any vehicle and anything can happen. I think Ford has done it's due diligence and done as much as possible to prevent this with bolt guards, trunk trays, fire suppression systems, etc. What more can be expected of them?

Our Agency runs Black & Whites with a few slick tops.  All Patrol Cars have red/blue lights on the underside of the trunk lid.

Ford's website has a section that contains extensive information on the whole issue including the recommendations from the Ford Motor Company - State of Arizona Blue Ribbon Panel on Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Rear End Crashes.
