Just doing a survey to see other agencies practices on motorcycles. I know most motorcycles are assigned to a specific rider but when the motor is down for service-repairs does the officer have options to jump on spare or use someone else's motorcycle with an agreement amongst themselves? Some officers are very particular about their bike.

We have three motor officers and three motors.  All of the motor officers have an assigned car as well, unlike our regular patrol wich are non-assigned pool vehilces.  These three officers are all part of our C.A.R.E. Team (traffic unit).  If their motor goes down, they jump in their car till it is fixed.

All of our riders have a take home car as well.  If they need a bike while theirs is down for a dog & pony show or such they have to make arrangements to get one from one of the other riders.

Particular as they all may be, "the last time I checked the title belongs to the County."   I get a lot of mileage out of that statement when the need arises.

Thanks for the feedbacks, you guys have it made, one bike and one car? I have 80 Harleys with 80 riders and a new training class of 8 coming with no spare bikes. They took all my trainers and made them active motors. We told them not too but now we are disposing of them as they come in for maintenance. We just took back 17 "entitlement" takehome vehicles which will save us $35,000 @ year on fuel.  Takehome is getting real tough now.
