Here is my deal, I am a fleet manager for 17 units, 10 shuttles buses and 15 ambulances. We are in the process of 08 budget and Chevrolet Impala came to mind and the price is nice. Has anyone had major problems ie Transmission, motor or brake problems? I am very happy with the Crown Victoria but we have a hard time getting around in the snow. I had a 2002 and had problems but willing to give it a run again. Thanks in advance for any input.

| We have seven units. I'm not impressed. Front end unibody bolts loosen up all the time. Ignition switch pin issues. Park them if the snow exceeds 6 inches (w/studs) I think they have their place...but not in snow country. John

I have about 1500 impalas and they work great in the snow. Some brake problems. but GM is working on it. GM stands by thier equipment and will always come up with a fix if there is a problem.

| I manage a fleet which includes 22 patrol units, half of which ar Impalas. The older 00' to 05' Impals have their issues but the 06' and newer are awsome. I keep my patrol fleet half Impala and half Crown Vic. I find about a third of the officers are Impala lovers, a third Crwon lovers and a third like the Crowns in the warmer weather and switch to Impalas when the snow flies. I have also noticed that the more older officers, who grew up with rear wheel drive cars, prefer the Crown. The younger drivers prefer the Impala since most grew up driving front wheel drives. What it boils down to is what the officers feel most comfotable driving and comfort yeilds safety when the pressure is on and driving gets aggressive. I have few issues with the Impala except for short ife of the front brakes. I was getting 9-10k out of a set of pads and rotors. The majoity of brake failures were warped rotors due to hard high speed braking. I did extensive testing with a number of pad rotor combinations. The best results came from a semi-metalic pad with Commad Automotive Cryogenic brake rotors which are warrantied not to warp for the usable life of the rotor. Brake maintenance intervals have doubled with no degridation in performance. Averall, I think the Impala is a top performer for both police and administative use. Expect 100k+ before they need to go down the road.

| John, I read your post today and you stated in it that the Chevy Impala Front End Unibody Bolts Loosen up all the time. Do you have any more information of this issue? Does the steering "pop" when turning or you do you feel a "thumping" type of vibration thru the steering wheel while driving. What was done to correct this problem? Any information will be greatly appreicated. Ric Marshall, Columbia PD, Columbia TN.

| CPD, In refernce to your last post, I have an 07' that has a "pop" in the steering about 15 degrees either side of center. According to my local GM Service Writer, there is an engeneering issue with the aluminum sub-frame on 02' and newer Impalas. GM is warrantying this item dispite a recent front end collision. Per my shop supervisor, the same process was completed on two of my pre-05' Impalas.
