4. The Power of Municipal Leasing

Is leasing right for you?  In this session learn how to write a RFP; identify what if any limitations may exist for using various vehicles in a multitude of functions; how service is handled; what advantages/disadvantages may exist; what options you have at the end of the contract; and finally, is it financially advantageous to you to lease vehicles for your agency.  These topics as well as your questions will be addressed during this very informative session.

Presenters: Ms. Joanne Cornier, Mears Motor Leasing and Mr. Bob Crowe, Acme Auto Leasing

5. How Many Maintenance Technicians Do I Need?

This presentation will provide attendees with two examples of how they can evaluate their current fleet maintenance technician needs and how to determine what effect additions to the fleet will have on current fleet staffing. We will look at service intervals (for vehicles in warranty and out of warranty) and how this effects maintenance staffing. How much do you think the age of your equipment affects your maintenance staffing? If you know the number of maintenance hours needed to maintain your fleet and the number of technicians it would take, you can determine if your maintenance provider is providing competitive fleet services to your organization, this is true weather or not you do your own fleet maintenance or your maintenance is done by a municipal or private fleet maintenance provider for you.

Presenter: Mr. Bill DeRousse, Fleet Superintendent for the City of Everett and Everett Transitt, Everett Washington.

5:00pm - 9:00pm

The Availability of Homeland Security Grants

Law enforcement agencies have been faced with shrinking budgets and the disappearance of traditional funding sources.  These reductions continue in an environment of increase security pressures to fund tactical and communications vehicles, training of law enforcement personnel, and acquisition of equipment for deterrence, detection and prevention of catastrophic events.  One of the ways agencies have reduced financial strain is through the identification and award of governmental grants through the Department of Homeland Security. Yet tracking the possible grants and filling out the necessary paperwork just to apply – without guarantee of an award – is extremely time-consuming and can be taxing on law enforcement agencies whose resources are already stretched.   This session will provide information on how to discover Department of Homeland Security funds earmarked for raining, equipment purchases and vehicle purchases and help offset the costs associated with enhanced security measures.

Objectives:

  • Examine the budget available for homeland security grants and priorities for the next grant cycle
  • Hear about the latest funding initiatives and grant program allocations for law enforcement agencies
  • Identify which grants your agency is eligible to apply for

11. Lets Talk About Fleet Management, Managed Competition and What I Should Never Do.

As I look back over my 40 some years as a fleet manager. I wonder if I knew then what I know now, would I make the same choices. We have chosen a field that is ever changing. Technology is moving faster then we can keep up with. Computers provide us with more information then we can use. But we still get up every morning and head off to the office, because one thing this job is not and that is boring. During this session we will discuss the 8 areas of fleet management that we all should know something about. They are Budgets, Operating costs, Parts and Fuel management, Equipment replacement, Number of technicians needed, Warranty processing, Safety and Accident management, Environmental management, Maintenance policies and Performance measures/Best maintenance practices.

Presenter: Mr. Bill DeRousse, Fleet Superintendent for the City of Everett and Everett Transitt, Everett Washington.

Chances are, if you’ve been maintaining an automotive fleet at any time during the last 30 years, you’re aware of ASE certification.  You probably also know that ASE certification tests measure technician knowledge against standards set by the automotive service industry.  But still, you may want to know, “What’s in it for me?”  Attend this session and answer that question once and for all.  As the title implies, the session will present an overview of ASE, and ASE certification, its features and benefits – the value proposition you need to make the business case for ASE certification, up and down your organization.
